Habitat and FPCC Partnership Continues

The light at the end of the long hall is the bright light of education outside the Lecture Hall where Habitat and FPCC gave a full day's training to a room full of people intent on making a difference. Here Art Stauder and William McHugh teach the basics of blueprint reading to future Habitat Crew Leaders.

Grand Opening of Old North Grocery COOP

A little help goes a long way. Click on the link below for COOP news from last September which is tied to a little help given by AFH & some Washington U. Architecture students in late 2008. Today is the COOP's grand opening. Click on the images to enlarge. This will be part of Habitat's submittal in the LEED for Neighborhood Development certification process as well.

This is some of the work in progress in Old North as we begin LEED ND certification work on this project. Habitat for Humanity St. Louis has put together a fine team and I count myself lucky to be a member.

F.O.B. Day at Habitat St. Louis

This is just a third of the folks whom came out to help paint at the Habitat for Humanity jeffvanderlou site yesterday for a couple of different reasons. First of all, working with Christy Marshall of St Louis at Home and a group of designers to do some interiors for Habitat home buyers. Secondly, F.O.B. stands for 'Friends of Bill' and over 40 friends and family of the late Bill Croghan got together to work on this annual project just like he did. A nice way to get together and be involved in transforming our community.

This SIPS (Structural Insulated Panel System) is tracking LEED Platinum. It sits on an existing foundation and takes advantage of existing infrastructure and site development. The HERS Score (Home Energy Rating System) is in the 40s. On the energy side this home will have utilities about 45% of a typical code-built home of similar size.

Habitat ReStore

The ReStore had a fabulaous set up at the home show and, I hear, they did quite a bit of business. They had a hip set up, full of info and product. Congrats to them!

Contemporary materials, high performance, neighborhood scale and respect for the heritage of Old North will make 2010 Habitat for Humanity Saint Louis' finest year. These homes will shoot for LEED Platinum certification.

Habitat and SIPS

The Habitat Crew is doing a fine job in Florissant on the final home of the 2009 build. This home features SIPS (Structural Insulated Panel System) and if you click on the image you can see some detail and the important role of sealants in the installation.

St. Louis Heroes of the Planet

The St. Louis Business Journal unveiled the winners of their local Heroes of the Planet Awards this past Thursday. Here is a link to our involvement in the event and the work leading up to the awards.

I was tapped by Habitat to accept if/when we won for Sustainable Alliances and, sure enough, we won. Kyle and the gang are the big reasons for creating such a successful green venture and we are simply glad to help.

University City won in the Sustainable Communities category for a number of remarkable accomplishments including a great renovation of their historic City Hall. We are lucky enough to be a small part of this with our team approach to LEED housing development mentioned previously on this site. I will have more announcements on this in 2 weeks or so.

Finally, congrats to all the finalists and participants for leading the way in our region. It is an honor to be in your company.
